Album of the Year*

Props to ChopsWLS for the (uh-oh) heads-up on the Gangrene vizualz.  My guess is he forgot to exhale sidewayz before chuggin’ on that Vodka & Ayahuasca.  Cuz he forgot to post up the teaser joint, where one of The Nuge’s spawn dismantles and re-up’s an A-to the mu’fuckin’ K, homeboy.  Here’s what he missed:

The Shit I Bumped In tha 2011: Ron Santo To Derrick Rose (10-1)

At-at-at-at-at eight you’re a sucker/and seven a mutha’fucka…”

No disrespect to Masta Ace, but this Top Ten List ain’t got room for suckers.  This is it. My Top Ten tracks (based on a super-scientifical system that calculates the # of plays with consideration to release date).  If you missed the rest of the Top Fifty, go here (50-41).  Here (40-31).  Over here (30-21), and there (20-11).  I may have run these a tad short, but that is because: A.) these tracks speak for themselves, B.) I’ve most-likely already touched on them throughout the year, C.) I still have a couple other ‘Best of’ lists to produce, and D.) I’d like to think I still have a life.

Without further adieu:

10.  Vakill “Endless Road” f/ Vizion

Molemen affiliate Vakill dropped his fourth LP, Armor of God in 2011.  A couple of assumptions can be made by that sentence:  the beats will be bangin’ and the verses will strong.  A rapper’s rapper, Vakill doesn’t disappoint on “Endless Road.”  His delivery demands your attention, spitting densely-packed verses clearly and concisely.  ”Endless Road” is a journey through the streets of Obamaville, and proves to be a daily struggle:

“Cops flash the blue and red so much/they tripling seizures/Every corner’s a chicken spot/hard liquor and Jesus/High cholesterol/Holy Ghost and liver diseases/This our birthplace/We inherit it’s attributes/Business acumen/Vacuumin’ bags of loot and sippin’ Absolut/You gon’ havta shot/Contemplatin’ my doom/I see your fork in the road and raise you a plate and a spoon/I’m tryin’ to eat.”  Whew!

Indiana native Vizion joins for a dope cameo, toeing the line between saint and sinner.  Both emcees bring it, weaving punchlines and clever wordplay throughout a lyrically heavy track.  As for the beat, it’s not the Molemen this go-round.  Although they lace much of Armor of God, the production on “Endless Road” was handled by MGI from Germany.  Großartige Arbeit!  (That means “Great work!” in German, according to Google Translate.  I can’t call it).

The Shit I Bumped In tha 2011: Mike Brown To Leslie Frazier (30-21)

Part Three.  My most-played tracks of 2011.  No need for an introduction…

Feel free to drop a couple pennies if you want.  Also, there’s a Part 1 (50-41) and Part 2 (40-31). Check ‘em out if you want.

30.  Evidence “Crash”

According to the above video, this beat came about by accident.  Alchemist refined the erroneous sequence and Evidence smashed it.  It doesn’t sound to far off of what they usually come up with.  Chaotic sound effects, layers of local news feeds, chopped vocals and stabs are trademarks of the Step Brothers on the boards.  This shit is like an updated Bomb Squad production.  Organized Konfusion.  EV brings the heat, calmly rippin’ thru his verses as a stark contrast to the sonics.  It’s like he recorded his vocals to just the drum beat, then ALC brought that wall of sound back to top it off.  Ill shit, son.
