Future Purchase

I know that it is rare for people to get the opportunity to see into their not so distant future (unless of course im throwin down a 20 spot to some hippie chick with a 3rd nipple and a crystal ball), but last Friday night my homie Erik pointed me in the direction of my future time consuming item for all man caves. The next must have item on my list is the recently released (09/16/10) PS3 Move. Now before rollin over to Erik’s apt. I had no idea this item even existed. As I was to consumed by playing Madden ’11 for my PS3 online and getting my ass handed to me by a delinquient 15 y/o in the middle of the day, that audibles into quick slant routes when im in a 4-3 D blitzing my ROLB knowing damn good and well that P-nut Tillman (yes I religiously use the Chicago Bears) is not gonna be able to cover his man in 1-1 coverage and I get burned for a 40yd gain.

So I get to Erik’s and I notice this on the coffee table. Now I’m not sure what Erik and his girl are into but usually intimate items are tucked away in a box under the bed (im jus sayin’). So, intrigued I start fuckin around with it and Erik keys me into his new purchase and how it is the PS3 Move and the next 3 hrs are consumed with virtual frisbee golf and bocce tournaments.

Again, mind you this is the first I’ve seen of this as I don’t frequent the Gizmodo blog (sorry MSG) and the graphics are spot on. I wanted to find the nearest Wii and piss on it (sorry Goodwill Hunter). He had recently purchased the add on package with the Sports Challenge game which includes volleyball, archery, some gladiator fighting shit, table tennis, frisbee golf, and bocce. I only got to experience frisbee golf and bocce but that shit was hella fun. It looks like Sony took some time with the motion sensing also. You first calibrate the controller to yourself through the eye cam and then all movements are specific to your features.

We started with Frisbee Golf and the level of detail for the graphics on the courses is as crisp and rich as all new PS3 games. There are a ton of courses and difficulty levels which not only keep your interest, but will have you returning to play pretty frequently. We started off on the entry bronze level but progressed rapidly to the self-created Haighest level, we will call it green. There is a large range of motion allowing you to throw the frisbee in any manner you want. You maneuver around all different terrain and obstacles i.e. mountains, water, trees. Overall I’ve never played frisbee golf before in my life, but I felt like a dirty hippie back in college skipping class to blow heaters and throw around plastic disc, so that seems about right.

Next was Bocce which I also have never played and associate it with 60+ y/o italian men playin on a course outside of the bath house. Again there were a ton of courses with other unlockables as you played further, with a ton of obstacles to plan your “Stra-tegery” around. The motion sensor controls were spot on allowing you to grip, spin, toss your ball (“pause”) how ever you damn well please. This consumed most of our night trying to land the most off the wall shots for points.

Overall for $100 the Move package add-on with entry level game, cam, and controller its not a bad deal. Of course there will be more to come with this little feature as Tiger Woods ’11, Call of Duty (and yes there is a gun), and Heavy Rain have either already been released or will be within the month. Sony has to link this up for online play also, as I challenge any 15 y/o to trash talk me on the bocce course. I know it is startin to get cold in the CHI so this is a not-so-distant future purchase of mine for sure. Peep the Sony trailer for the Move below.
