Dre Day Twenty12

It’s that time again to celebrate the birthday of “the producer who can rap and control the maestro” and dem boys at Burlesque North America have been praising the D.R.E for ten years strong with nuttin but a gangsta party.

Not near MinneSnowta you say… I dont blame ya, so Ground Lift Media along with a list of Chi-town heavyweights have been holdin down this celebration in the 312 for the past 4 years. Ain’t shit changed for the Two Oh Twelve (peep the flyer above) and get your ass to Double Door this Saturday the 18th for the next episode. This year brings more heat with Big Once, and his newly appointed wings, as Red Bull Thre3style US Champ. Psalm One on the mic to provide some freestyles and Dre hooks as only she can. Along with a list of the homies (Intel, Maker, Trew, Pickle, Kool Hersh) to keep the party goin till, well 3 in tha mornin’.

I’ve been checking this party for the last 4 years and it never dissapoints. Always a nice mix of emcees and deejays paying homage to the Doctor with their own orginal mixes, edits, and blends of everything Dr. Dre. Get here early and grab a Colt 45 w/ paper sleeve (that was marketing bliss last year). Ground Lift Media provides this years sampling of mixes from your resident Dre Day deejays, Deep Covers 2. Get ur khaki’s cuffed and creased and meet us in dem Wicker Park Streets.

Other Dre Day Events: NYC, Philly, Orlando, and Vancouver

MacheteVision

Artwork by Flux of Binkis Recs

MacheteVision wins the award for album I didn’t Kno existed in 2011 and pleasantly found in 2012, so I’m aware that I am a few months late, but I’m banking on most of y’all haven’t been exposed to it yet. MarQ Spekt (Jersey City emcee) and Kno (Cunninlynguist) team up for a 10-track album with the theme being a heavy dose of sampling from the film Machete and gloomy, sinister beats as only Kno, “the Emo Premo” can provide. Add some features from Action Bronson, Deacon the Villain, and others and this (although short) work has been getting some repeat spins from me lately.

So head over here and pick up the deluxe version ’cause you are gonna want Kno’s instros. Check the track “Roadhouse” with Action Bronson.

Video: Dopehead- “Airbags”

The Motor City brings another real talkin emcee, Dopehead, from the Bruiser Brigade. He will be around the Midwest on the Relax tour with Das Racist and fellow Detroitian, Danny Brown. Airbags is the new video from upcoming Plaid Palm Trees. IMHO he kills his last verse even with the Rodney Stuckey reference. You can catch up with some raw free shit from Dopehead from 2008 here.

This is the first preview off Smoke DZA’s new album “Rolling Stoned” set to drop Aug. 30th. U might as well preorder it.

Smoke DZA – “On The Corner” (Feat. Bun B & Big K.R.I.T.) by thesmokersclub

It has been bout 2 years since Smoke DZA dropped “Substance Abuse” and I’m not gonna lie I was not tracking on self-proclaimed George Kush, but once “George Kush- Da Button” dropped DZA’s was in heavy rotation at the Lakeview Emporium. He put his name and Smoker’s Club to the test on the video for Continental Kush Breakfast. Gotta love the name droppin.

I asssume this is how @RockMedz begins his day, but I’m not sure if he can hang with the club with Big K.R.I.T. and Curren$y featured on a multitude of his tracks along with K.R.I.T. and Ski Beats doing most of the beats, his mixtapes have known not to dissapoint. Put it in the decks and put it in the air… and hell jump in the van with Devin the Dude and a fresh out of college Asher Roth (fuckin Mark Zuckerberg lookin ass).

After all that you’re prolly hungry… for more ish so go get “Hustler’s Catalog” to hold you over till the Aug 30th. Then drive around banging I’m Loaded wit Lex Luger on the beat

Welcome to [Reggies] Chicago

As most of y’all were tucked away dreamin bout Roman Candles and how many brats you could put down on your extended weekend… The Golden Eagles Media Crew came thru the CHI for Galapagos 4′s Mid-Summer Party at Reggies Rock Club on last Friday. The showcase put on many Galapagos 4 labelmates; Rift Napalm, Hellsent, Robust w/ Max and Pore (Old Irving), Qwazaar, and the homies Qwel and Maker. This has been, is, and will be Chicago Hip Hop so if ya haven’t seen a Galapagos 4 artist showcase or a Qwel and Maker live show where the fuck ya been? Qwel spits some local history on “Welcome to Chicago” from Maker and his set.

This track goes harder every time I see it performed. The Mayor Daley samples are so on point and now that it is hot out, it does seems like everyone wants to riot round here. Overall a solid Hip Hop show and it was good to see some dudes I aint seen for a bit get down. Max and Pore sounded real dope poundin away on the MPCs with Robust and Qwazaar’s set went deep (i was pretty swerved but did I hear “in due time”) . Big thanks to Jeff at G4, Qwel and Maker for letting our homies shoot. More to come Word… Life, Son

PUTS Tonight!

It was a Friday night and WLS Crew was drinkin’… and you should be too. Chicago hit up Subterranean tonight for LA’s Finest, People Under the Stairs. They sold the place out last time and bout to do it again, so quit hangin’ on Twitter and come hear some true hip hop. Oh yea and drink some BEEEEEERRRR!
